Spending a weekend or longer at Nueces River RV and Cabin Resort is full of fun, sun, wildlife, BBQ, and water. It’s always a lovely day here since Camp Wood has 230 sunny days a year. We know that RV storage space is always a premium, so below are four things to pack that pack small and play big.
THINGS TO PACK
- Inflatable Tube – Inflatable tubes made for floating down a river pack small, so they easily fit in your RV. Once inflated, you are in for a treat. Our resort is right on a quarter-mile of the riverfront along the Nueces River. Less than a mile upstream is the outflow of the Nueces Dam, so you can drop in your tube by the dam and float back to camp.
- Snorkel Gear – Some prefer to swim while others are floating along the amazingly clear waters of the Nueces River. Snorkel gear such as a mask, snorkel, and fins pack small but provide big fun and unforgettable experiences. The Nueces River holds many types of bass, including the rare Guadalupe Bass only found in Texas. Snorkelers may also spot various panfish such as Redbreast Sunfish, Rock Bass, Green Sunfish, and Rio Grande Perch.
- Underwater Camera – Whether you enjoy the river by floating or snorkeling, packing an underwater camera like a GoPro is a great way to capture the fun above and below the water. We’d love for you to share your underwater shots on our Facebook page.
- Binoculars/Telescope – Spot the 200 different bird species that live in or migrate through the area every year or get a closer look at the local river wildlife with just a set of binoculars.
Aside from wildlife, no light pollution here in the Hill Country means you can view the stars as nature intended. A small telescope can fit easily in an RV, but amateur astronomers can find plenty in the night sky with just a pair of binoculars too. With plenty of star chart apps available, anyone can find their favorite planet or constellation.
